Out o' NYC and into the traffic

25 June 2021 NYC

We researched our possible routes out of the city the night before we left.  The car pick up point is at the farthest tip of Manhattan, Battery Park.  The first set of directions took us along the east side of Manhattan via FDR drive.  Our cabbie took us that way and we saw bad construction related traffic going the way we were soon to travel.  So we went on the west side of the island instead.  We passed through Yonkers where my grandpa, Ange Fredrik Swanson once lived.  There was traffic through the city but it seemed to keep moving.  The trip to Providence was estimated to take 3 hours and 20 minutes.  We had expected the traffic to thin out as we left the city but it seemed to get worse ands worse as we went along.  After driving 2 hours in some heavy stop and go the GPS said we now had 3 hours and 30 minutes to get to Providence.  Nothing more needs to be said of that drive.  Upon our arrival in the tiny state of Rhode Island, we checked into our Victorian style AirBnB for the night.  It was very clean, spacious and beautiful.  We splashed on some cologne and perfume and we were off to meet Karen and Jose for dinner.  These two are recent FAU PhD recipients and Leslie was on each of their committees.  Congratulations to you both!
