12 December 2025 Paphos: A Picnic in the Akama National Forest

Once we got on the correct route, we drove another half hour and eventually descended to sea level.  We passed through the small town of Latsi.  There were several businesses renting 4x4 buggies.  These are for driving on the rugged trails and "roads" found in the park.  We had a choice of following the coastal road or heading inland towards Sniggies picnic area.  We had not eaten lunch yet, so we chose the picnic area.  Along the way, there was a donkey farm and a cute little church.  At the donkey farm we noticed that the parking lot was full.  No one was around, so we wondered where they could be.  We set up our picnic at the small church and before long we saw groups of two and three people walking our way.  They had been walking a trail in the park and one of them was picking up trash along on her return to the car.  We lingered a bit and finally headed back.  We decided to take a different route back, one that was much easier and less stressful.

We have reached the coast and the town of Latsi

Don't blink or you will miss it...heading back inland

Forested and mostly empty

We are entering the Akamas Forest

Welcome, humans!

At the tiny church a modest bell

Bees in the backyard

An unusual architecture

This seemed to be the only window, but it did nor open to the inside

Perhaps this congregation wanted more of a bunker than a chapel

A great spot for a picnic

But they have a nice view

Was there a grave here?

A plethora of pinecones

As rustic a sign as can be

Who drove through the fresh cement?

Nothing says national park quite like a shot-up sign

Further along the trail

Just us two!

Them boulders are big

Looking back to the north we see the sea

We stopped to get a closer look at the donkeys

Cute cute cute!

There were close to 20 donkeys here

Our  favorite

Even more bees

These large terra cotta planters were popular

Heading back downhill

A lone sailboat

O shrine located on a particularly tight curve in the road

The beach

Chairs are for rent

A brisk wind

The waves are pretty small

The Akama Peninsula

More serious bikers

A hotel and restaurant in the town of Latsi

Back up on the ridges

Clear air and long views

Yet another large church in Paphos

It has been 3 years and 190 days since we began our Migration
