We were pretty much settled in our new place and we took some time to explore. A half hour to the east is a set of sea stacks that are named Aphrodite's Rock. According to local mythology Aphrodite emerged from the sea foam at this very location. The mythology describes a conflict between Gaia, Chronos and Uranus. Chronos's mother, Gaia, asked him to mutilate his father, Uranus, and he agreed. He cut off Uranus's testicles, and tossed them into the sea. The testicles caused the sea to foam up and out of the foam sprang Aphrodite. We did not see and gods or demi-gods while we were here but we did see some fantastic scenery. We passed the Asprokermmos Dam on the way to the rock and drove over the dam on the way home. It is a birding hotspot and I saw a large raptor but it was too far away to get a good identification. Bonelli's Eagle or long legged buzzard are the top candidates.
Passing a large wall
The dam is quite large
Flowers!
Lots of directions
We are almost there
It is a bit windy up at the scenic viewpoint
An art installation is here that appears to be picture frames
Living on the edge
Yes it is a bit foamy
Aphrodite was next to me all along!
It was a steep and rugged trail to bet down to beach level
Dedicated bikers
The view from the top of the dam
A boat but no water!
Finally a sliver of water
The local drought has taken its toll on the water level
A flock of pigeons
Sit a spell
Lloow low water
A hooded crow chasing the raptor
Made it home to a great sunset
It just kept on going!
The lighthouse
The light in the lighthouse
Good night to all
