This is our second visit to the Sagrada de Familia Basilica. The first was in 2023 during our first Spanish season. We were able to see the progress that has been made on the basilica's spires in the ensuing years. Of course the interior is just as spectacular as we remembered. It was Carlos and Omar's first time so we split up to explore which ever place anyone wanted. There is a museum in the basement that has had seen improvements in the last two years. Two new media modules tell the story of Gaudi's work and how he used inverted rope models to help design the basilica.
We are almost there
Squeeze in everybody
Only one more tower to complete
The last tower is the main one and will have a huge four armed cross on the top
I saw a bird!
This was the only section completed in Gaudi's lifetime
Very old school gothic
A bit of the first architect's design still seen
Fancy outfits
Huge doors
Adorned with plants
Insects
Lizards
Spiders
Oh my!
These huge spiral staircases go all the way to the top
The columns supporting the roof are branched like trees
A massive scale
This is light shining through the wiondows
Intended to look like the design in a chalice
Blues and greens
Reds and yellows
The main altar looking forward
A fine logo
The support system has allowed a greater open area in the center
Looking back to what will become the main entrance
Very open and with lots of light
Amazed again!
A great welcoming door
Welcome in so many languages
Palm leaves or big loaves of bread
The reflection of the windows
A seen from the glass covering on the crypt viewing area
So many colors here
Looking down into the crypt, the oldest part of the building
A lone organist playing for Gaudin in his grave
The sun is really pushing light through these windows
Woo hoo!
A holly sprig
The tour takes us back outside
To the gate that most reflects Gaudi's style
It shows Christ's passion and id very dstark
I saw a bird!
More columns supporting this gate
Up on the cross
