23 November 2022 Brisbane: Jacobs Ladder a Historic Staircase

This day before Thanksgiving found us preparing for Thanksgiving Day.  There is no such holiday in Australia but we intend to celebrate anyway.  Since the Australian Bush Turkey is not on the menu we will celebrate with beef.  Walter's is an old time steak house that we discovered few weeks ago.  At the time we thought it would be a great place to have Christmas dinner.  That proved too costly so we compromised on Thanksgiving.  A big juicy porterhouse steak and mashed potatoes is close enough to turkey and mashed potatoes.  Our preparations consisted of getting Leslie's red dress repaired and my blue suit coat cleaned and pressed.  Six months in a suitcase has left some serious wrinkles.  On the way to the dry cleaners we passed by the Cathedral of St Stephan, ANZAC park and some cool sculptures.  We saw Jacobs Ladder and decided to return after we hit the Brisbane Square Wednesday market.  We bought new bread, berries, corn, tomatoes and some Lebanese flat breads.  We returned to Jacobs Ladder, 86 red painted steps.  They are on the site of an older pathway, described as a dirt path with a rickety ladder put in place in the 1920's.  The concrete steps went up in 1961 and was refurbished in 2008.  It connects King Edward Park with Spring Hill.  There are sculptures and an old bomb shelter at the base.  We climbed up and then back down stopping to look at the trees and the flowers along the way.  We came back to the apartment by way of Fresca Market where we bought fish for dinner.  We used the Lebanese flat breads for the base of our fish "tacos".  A delightful dinner for two.

So many Churches and they are all different
