16-17 November 2022 Brisbane: The Brisbane Square Market, the QUT Museum and the Old Government House

16 November was the Doctors visit and trip to the pharmacy.  My diagnosis was sinus infection with antibiotics for the bug and a steroid for the inflammation.  Australian medicines are cheap.  $15 AUD for the two scripts.  Then we were off to the City Market in Brisbane Square.  We stopped in a card shop, that was on the way, and bought a tiny stapler to staple all the trip paperwork.  I would have brought some of the novelty items that they were selling but no room in the bags. The market was hopping since it was lunch time.  The florist was not there, boo hoo, nor was the mushroom vendor but we got the great tomatoes, fruit, a basil bunch and another loaf of bread.  Back home for lunch and time to dose up.

17 November started out great as I was able to sleep well for the first time in five days.  The sinus infection is on the way out.  Tuesday night I barely got 6 hours of sleep between all the the coughing and Wednesday night I got 9 hours of sleep.  I think it is the steroids doing  the  heavy lifting.  But I felt good so off we go.  As we were getting ready, the water to the apartment was out.  There was a leaking pipe so the water was shut off.  Luckily we remembered that  there were showers in the gym area so we fed two birds with one scone and exercised before using those showers.  We went to the QUT Art Gallery and the Old Government House.  On the way there we went through our favorite botanical gardens and we heard bagpipes off in the distance.  We followed the sound to find a full-blown Scottish wedding.  Kilts on the wedding party and a bagpiper too!  Then we got to the QUT Art Gallery where a retrospective show of Mona Ryder an Australian artist was being shown.  QUT stands for Queensland University of Technology and the motto is "The University for the Real World".  The University is downtown and also right next to the park.  They have a small art space and it was free!  Ryder's show contained art pieces spanning four decades of her career and we loved it.  She repurposed many items like mussel shells, ironing boards, fish hooks and much more.  We then went over to the Old Government House which was built to house the first Governor of Queensland.  They also had an art show going on with art by William Robinson.  These works were completely different and much more light hearted and whimsical.
