The building of the house started in the late 1890's But Chung Keng Quee did not get to see the finished building as he died in 1901. They went ahead and added a shrine to him while they were building the house. They did not spare any expense on the shrine. There were ceramic tiles on the roof, a fantastic set of doors, a gigantic gold gilded area where a statue of Chung stands.
