5 December 2024 Brisbane: Venturing into the Teneriffe Neighborhood

Leslie had an appointment for a facial at the Double Cleanse Salon in Teneriffe.  We took the 196 bus for about 10 minutes and then walked another 8 minutes to the salon.  I was a bit hilly and a tad bit warm.  Once I dropped her off I headed to Teneriffe Park to poke around for a bird or two.  I found the really hilly part of town!  This park is located at the top of the highest hill around with great views of the city in the distance and lots of cool houses.  The first ting I see in the park was what I thought to be an elusive nocturnal bird, the frogmouth.  It was just a piece of bark and not a bird at all!  I took the path leading downhill, because that is the only direction to go from the top.  This path was switch backing  down through a thickly wooded areas.  I saw 9 or 10 brush turkeys on the way in and amongst the trees.  At the bottom of the hill there were two small Jack Russel dogs, off leash, that came over to me.  The older one never stopped barking at me and the puppy just jumped all over me.  I walked over to the owner who had not moved a bit during this and announced that they had found the intruder and had retrieved the intruder and the intruder was me.  The path kept going back up hill where I actually saw a Tawney Frogmouth.  After the false alarm earlier I was very pleased.  I would probably have missed it except this path got narrower and less developed as I climbed so I would take three steps and stop to look around.  No need to surprise any spiders or snakes in these parts.  I eventually got back to the top of the hill and it was time to return to the salon to meet Leslie.  We walked towards the river to avoid any hills.  Lunch seemed like a good idea so we stopped over by the library.  The cafe was nice and we continued to walk all the way back to our place.
