16-17 February 2023 Auckland to Dubai: 17 Hours in the Air

This was the longest flight that we have been on yet.  17.5 hours is not something to take lightly so for medical reasons we decided to splurge and get first class seats.  Besides the extra room we got in our pods, Emirates provided a chauffer to the airport, access to the lounge before we boarded.  Then we had access to a shower on the plane, access to the stand up bar at the back of the top floor and a fine selection of things to eat anytime we choose to eat them.   We had caviar, and seafood and other goodies all through the night.  We laughed and drank and slept through the turbulence until it was too rough to sleep.  Movies were watched, books read, more snacks consumed and before we knew it we had only 9 more hours to fly.  It was not really that bad.  We each drank a gallon of water or more so we were forced to get up and more around.  I managed to watch all the Hobbit movies and the Fellowship of the Ring. Mostly the movies were on in the background to see the many places in New Zealand that we had visited.  We landed in Dubai around 5:00 AM and were chauffeured to the JW Marriott.  This chauffer and hotel stay was also part of the first class experience flying with Emirates.  `

We got a few G'nT's while waiting to board the plane

The A380 plane is the biggest that Airbus manufactured

It is a double decker aircraft

The room per person in economy, lower level,  is substantially smaller than that given to the first class folks upstairs

A selection of water and soft drinks

Snacks to go with the champagne

The grooming products and a mirror to fix my bow tie

A fine table is set in our pods

A amuse bouche got the ball rolling with a tasty fish on diced cucumbers

We both ordered the caviar with all the fixins

A very generous serving of caviar

Caviar, egg whites chopped finely, egg yolk also minces, blinis, sour cream, green onions

And some Dom Perignon champagne

At the lounge,

A stand up bar in the back of the upper deck

Dom Perigone, sent back to the lounge just for us at $250 a bottle we are hitting it hard!

The shower!  We all got to pick a time measured backwards from landing time.  Leslie got 2.5 hours before landing for my shower

I got three hours before landing.

I tried some whiskey, the Dalmore King Alexander III single malt whiskey.  I liked it, yes I did!  At $300 a bottle I am not hitting it hard
