We wanted to stay an additional night in Madrid instead of immediately flying to Marabella. 25 hours in planes over 48 hours is enough for a while. That gave a Sunday to go out and get a taste of Madrid. We know of no better way to do that than the hop on hop off bus, or as we like to call it the hoho. We took an Uber into town and had to poke around to find the correct hoho stop. A little help from the locals and a short run and we were sitting pretty on the top of the hoho bus. Sundays in Europe are different than they are in the rest of the world. There always seems to be a race or a protest or some sort of event that shuts down streets and redirects traffic. We had a race and protests going on so the bus route was modified, not that we knew any different. We just loved seeing the layout of the city and seeing so many folks out and about. There are magnificent Palaces, Churches and Municipal buildings everywhere. Interspersed between all of these are large parks and green spaces. A great city and the taste we got only makes us hungry for more.
Leaping into Madrid, the Leips hop onto the hop on hop off bus
Big heads always make good art
Cream colored and layered like a cake
Plaza Colon was our starting point
We drove through one historical district after another
Grand statues and arches
Chiseled out of granite
And marble
Traffic is redirected so is our bus
Across from the palace
Rising high above the city is the royal palace
Just another fine building
A bit of modern architecture
The Cathedral
This building is an optical illusion, it is painted. But the leaning trees are real
Everybody loves a Sunday market
A mass of folks in the market
A tiny Church
Bigger spires
Nice façade on this museum
Folks are out on a warm Sunday
Streets are narrow
Fountains flowing
The grand train station
Grand municipal buildings
Lots of oversized wings
Big babies
A militant pose next to the big baby head
One more beautiful park
