There is a party vibe in Queenstown as you can see from the picture above. We saw lots of younger folks and lots of bars. Perhaps it is because it is New Zealand's Waitangi Day. This is the cerebration of the European discovery of New Zealand and also of the signing of peace treaties with the Māori. We slept in comfortably at the Hilton and then drove into town after checking out. It was a busy day in Queenstown with folks everywhere. The sun was warm and the wind was calm so our explorations were carefree. We did treat ourselves to some sushi and then explored some more. We then headed to the store. No eggs again as the egg shortage continues unabated. We checked into our AirBnB and we were quite pleased with the layout. The beds were a bit on the hard side but the balcony gives us a view of the lake. We made dinner and ate it out on the balcony watching the sparrows flit this way and that. We even tossed some peas over the balcony and watched the sparrows find and eat them. The sunset was very nice but the clouds prevented our seeing the full moon.
This is the cut that the gondola rides along. The cars seemed very small and prone to buffeting in the windy environment.
The Fergburger is a big thing. So many folks were in line that the sidewalk was blocked
A box of sushi for each of us
The ally was painted nicely
But it was a bit sketchy due to the Asian Massage Parlor half way down
A Man and his Sheep
The waterfront
One crazy kind of jet ski
Downtown
A pedestrian mall
66 Steps up to where we parked the car
Across the lake
The Hilton is on the left across the lake
Our view from the balcony
Fancy houses that we saw on our walk yesterday
Craggy mountain of the Remarkable Range. They were named the Remarkables because they align almost perfectly north to south
The thrill boat
It goes fast and splashes everyone on board
These mountains are everchanging in the dappled light
Jet ski takes a break
Then guns it
As the sun moves the mountains look markedly different
All the sparrows
The sun hitting the Remarkables
Sun is down
and the clouds are lighting up
Very orange
and the lake is reflecting the light
Much fun!
A weird extra swirl in the sunset
Good night Queenstown
It has been 246 days since we began our Migration
