Hallsgrimkirkja Church

We walked up the Hallsgrimkirkja church today. It was quite windy and we were all bundled up when we left.  As we made it to the top of the hill the wind got stronger and it was cold. We got there at 11:02 just in time to buy our tickets for the organ concert at 12. Then we walked over to Loki Cafe where we had some fancy Icelandic tea that included moss.  They had a cool mural painted upstairs and we warmed up a bit. The concert was very cool and we got to sit in the front row. The organist was from Iceland and it was amazing to watch her hands move but also to watch your feet move. We think she had special shoes that allowed her to play the pedals with the front of her shoes as well as the heels and still keep them on her feet.  The line to go to the top had 30 or 40 people in it when we went into the Oregon concert but there was no one in line when we came out. So we bought our tickets and took the elevator to the top and then three flights of stairs to the actual Observatory area. If we thought it was cold and windy at the base of the church we really found out what cold and windy was all about. There was a secondary observation area where the clocks were in the tower. We would look out the window intently when we were really just hovering over the radiator. It was toasty warm there. After the church we walked around some more to the shops  and went back to the apartment for lunch. We got everything ready to go tomorrow because we're leaving very early. For dinner we went back up and I got a tasty whale steak with some smoked Puffin it was quite good. Leslie got a beef steak and we split a salad. We had a hard time remembering the last time we had salad. The picture I took of dinner is nowhere to be found.  Hmmmm

Quite the structure

The pipes, over 4000

The organ was right out in front of everyone

Miss Leslie matching the decor

One of the controls was tutti, I did not see the frutti control

I like the tiny yellow building
