14 december 2022 Brisbane: Boom Boom Room for Dinner

The Boom Boom Room is a Japanese restaurant just 250 meters from our apartment.   Our dinner here was the best meal we have had in Australia so far.  But first we had to run some chores.  We returned a book at the library, we bought some veggies at the Brisbane Square Market and purchased some sundries at the Priceline.  Along the was we saw two different groups playing Christmas music. The first group was dressed like toy soldiers but they took a break as soon as we arrived.  The second group was a scatt jazz group and we listened to most of their set.  Back to the apartment to clean up for dinner at the Boom Boom Room.  On the way out another band is playing holiday music.  We couldn't stay long because we had to walk those 250 meters to the restaurant.  When we arrived we were seated immediately and ordered some Gin and Tonics made with Japanese Gins that we have not tried before.  The drinks were served to us by our server Darcy, Mr. Darcy he said.  We ordered the tasting menu with 14 items on the list.  Each item was great.  As an example there was a marinated salmon roe tartlet with macadamia cream and wasabi peas.  Leslie is not a big fan of salmon roe as it has a very fishy taste and can be a bit oily. As such I am often the one eating her salmon roe, a job that I am willing to take on at any time.  However this time she ate the entire tartlet as it was constructed in such a way that the peas and the cream cut the fishy-ness and the oily part was balanced out by the crust of the tart.  All of the items were crafted in this thoughtful way and each item was a stand out success.  Each item could get a full description but instead we urge you to get to Brisbane and  dive in for yourself.  On a side note we saw an odd couple that reminded me of Grant Wood's iconic painting American Gothic, all this couple needed was the pitchfork to pose with.  In addition a big table of 8 showed up and we were speculating about the group dynamics.  We deduced they were a set of parents,  The young couple was made up of one of the offspring from the parents, but that is as far as we got.  Leslie saw the Mother in the bathroom and got the whole scoop.  The couple was her son and his girlfriend and he had just graduated with two bachelors degrees, finance and economics.  Carrie, the mother and the girlfriend both had very serious haircuts!
