15 December 2022 Brisbane: Time for a Driving Lesson

Since we will be renting a car in New Zealand, where they drive on the wrong side, we thought it prudent for Leslie to get a driving lesson.  Not so much to learn how to drive, more for getting comfortable with the layout of the car and to get pointers from the instructor.  Prior to leaving the US we had decided that we would each sit in the same position in the car no matter which side of the road they drive on.  So in countries that drive on the right side of the road, Fritz will drive, in countries where they drive on the left side, Leslie will drive.  That is why she got the lesson.  The instructor was named Charlie and he had his own set of pedals but not a steering wheel.  He only needed to use the break pedal once in a construction zone that was particularly confusing. He also started to grab the wheel once as he thought she was over too far to the left.  All in all, it was a grand success and well worth the cost.  Confidence comes from experience.

Let the lesson begin

In the car, mirrors adjusted, all belted in and ready to merge into traffic

Leslie drove over to the New Farm area where they have traffic circles to practice on
