We made our way out to New Farm and back today. First we walked through the park to the Gardens Quay where we got on the City Cat Ferry. It was just a short ride to the Riverside dock where we switched over to the Kitty Kat Ferry for an even shorter ride to the Howard Smith Wharf. There are extended walkways over top of the river in this section which we had been wanting to walk along. The weather could not have been any better, low 80's in the sun and cool in the shade. We walked a few miles along the river and then stopped at a Bowling Club for lunch. It was tasty and then we continued to New Farm Park where the rose gardens were extensive. We were volunteer pollinators for several types of flowers as our noses were way up in several flowers, sniffing away. We both agreed that the best smelling rose ever was found here in these gardens. We took the ferry back to Riverside. We thought that perhaps we would go to the Garden Quay but as it turns out I was left with only $0.77 on my go card so it was better not to push it too hard. What another great day!
Ferry ride under the Story Bridge
Those folks can't keep themselves off of the top of this bridge
Elenore was our ride to the Wharfs
You can see that this elevated walkway goes on for miles
An old time house on top of the cliffs
An old rowing-shed converted into a residence
A marina on the opposite bank
A very large warning signal
It is a mystery to me why such an involved system of warnings and signals is required on a bike and pedestrian path
A high tech light pole
Some sort of projector on the top
A nice architectural highlight
Look at those fancy windows!
The Mail man's mail-mobile
A very serious lawn at this place
Old boats
Part of a very nice moasic
Lucky Sunning in the sun
Echidna designs
Kangaroos and cassowary
Masked Wood-swallow
We had lunch at the Merthyr Bowls Club. We were allowed under clause "D"
One for Leslie
Giant chicken parmigiana for me. It was actually a chicken cordon-parm, they snuck a slice of ham under the cheese
We sat outside and the bar had an easy access pass through
We could hear this Christmas Party from a half a mile away
Time for some lawn bowling
Four X is a beer
An odd sign seen across the river, I could not agree more
They must specialize in amputees
I will be Hairy Mary and Leslie can be Mary Berry
Good smelling flowers
The way the river bends, the central business district, where we are staying seems very close
Five dogs at a time!
We have found the rose gardens
These gardens were extensive
Some beds were all one color
Some rose bushes were very tall
But they all were beautiful
Two colored
Peachy
Pinks
The Royal Poincienna tree was immense
Time for a nap
The system of ferry boats is a fabulous addition to the Brisbane experience
This was our path. I started (1) it at the wharf walkways instead of the Apartment which is where it ended (6) The red part is a ferry ride where we went 28 mph. The average is not accurate as we did sit down for lunch and along the river a few times. Even with the big lunch we worked up an appetite.
