21 December 2022 Brisbane A Picnic on South Bank and a Visit to Death and Taxes

We took a walk over to the South Bank to eat our picnic lunch.  I saw a new bird on the way over.  We sat by the beach to eat and were entertained by the kids, the adults and the seniors all mixed up together.  We stopped off at the Brisbane Square market for the last time.  We got essentials for the next week and some items for tonight's dinner.  We cleaned up and dressed up to go out to the bar.  Death and Taxes was recommended to us and it did not disappoint.  We enjoyed our excursion into Gin-land.  It was so fun that we ordered a third drink each blowing past our usual two drink max.  Luckily for us the last two were on the house from the bartender, Brock.  Brock was from Western Australia and admired that we had made it to the western side which  does not make it onto the lists of most tourists.

We just sat down for our picnic lunch

A new life bird the Buff-Banded Rail

An odd place to park your bike

The beach was hopping

A great bar

This is one impressive array of booze

Gin #1 fruity and good with a orange slice

Gin #2 sunshine gin for my sweet Miss Sunshine

Tall glasses and metal straws

When you need a ladder to reach all the booze, you are doing something right.  Brock was able to get up and down with ease

Gin #3 was Tepache Gin made with a nod to tepache, a fermented drink from Mexico made with pineapple rinds and peel.

Gin #4 was a very exotic gin from China.  When the bartender told me it has Sichuan peppers in it I was sold

Juniper, angelica, Xinjaing almonds, lotus, East Asian mint, Buddha's hand, Sichuan pepper, cardamom pods, Chinese cassia, coriander seeds and liquorice

Yum!

Gin #5 was a blue gin from Australia.  I thought it was squid ink but squid was not on the list of ingredients

Gin #6 was another Australian gin but this one was pink.  The pink comes from the strawberry gum tree

The last two gins, 5 & 6 were on the house!  Thanks to Brock from western Australia.

An odd juxtaposition of rat hole and tiny Van Gogh door
