18 December 2022 Brisbane: A Concert for the Holidays

A busy day of holiday fun for us.  We saw a afternoon concert at City Hall.  It was the Queensland Choir singing Handel's Messiah.  Wowzers!  This was a spectacular performance by 132 person choir, four vocal soloists and a 24 person orchestra.  The introduction was a bit long winded but we learned that they started practice with 150 folks in the choir. That first practice turned out to be a covid super spreader event.  Only 67 people were able to return the following week, but not the conductor who was sick.  They had invited the public to practice with the choir and we thought that would have been fun.  Good thing we didn't, we want to spread the love not spread the bug. Before we went over to the concert we hit the gym and then saw some sort of rally or protest off in the distance.  The concert was supposed to start at 2:45 but that was just a suggestion, as people were filtering in even after 3:00.  We were sitting near the end of the row and after getting up a half dozen times we just got out of the isle until everyone in the isle was seated.  Once the concert got started we were in for a great show!  The volume of the entire choir, when they belted it out, was hair raising.  What fun!  There were 53 movements organized into three parts.  The whole concert lasted almost three hours.  We meandered around the pedestrian mall after the concert and soaked up all the Christmas cheer.

This was too far away to determine what it was about but we suspect another protest against the Islamic regime in Iran
