28 August 2024 Toronto: Speakeasy Secrettes and Dinner at George

We found a speakeasy that was located above a nice restaurant.  So we made reservations and ubered over to eat and drink.  Of course we were early and had some time to spare.  A very nice bookstore was just across the street so we browsed the shelves and actually purchased two books!   Just before the opening time we headed up to Secrettes.  The only indicators that we were heading to the speakeasy was a painting of a man doing the "shhhh" motion and a neon sigh that said cocktails.  Luckily we are smart travelers and this was the only help we needed to find the place.  Our mixologist was Berkan, from Turkey, and he made us the finest drinks possible.  Fancy hors d'oeuvres were served including a squash flowers.  Yum!  We each got two drinks and we got to meet the General Manager.  Eli talked travel with us and made us feel right at home. Then we headed downstairs to George for dinner.  Great fun and great food!

At the street car turnaround, the electric wires and support cables for the street cars are everywhere

Off we go to the speakeasy

A very fancy uber and a super efficient driver.  He cut 8 minutes off of our trip with his expert driving

Where is the top of the CN tower?

Nicely stocked and displayed

There were a half dozen fellow shoppers in the bookstore

By George!

Shhhhh, secrette...

The only indication that we are here is the neon sign

A wall of rabbit portraits

Berkan and Fritz

So many bunnies!

In the menu there were old time paintings

My bespoke cocktail with grey whale gin, pepper Campari, simple syrup, lychee and lemon

Leslie ordered this gin drink with a very thick foam on the top

The next cocktail, the Japonaise, was not to my liking but Leslie found it delightful.  It was made with Roky Gin, yuzu, Prosecco and simple syrup

La Diosa, Emerald Gin, St Germaine Elderflower, lemon and raspberry

The La Dioso is "La Disappearo"

Time for dinner

The decor was quite nice

A ball of leaves or flowers, either way it is pretty

Cherub!

We are seated at the "kitchen table" where we can see the goings on of the kitchen

I got a glass of cabernet sauvignon, B-Side, from California

The 7 course tasting menu was different from all the pother tasting menus we have ever had

Each course was two different items.  So each course was split into halves and shared between us

So the seven courses then became 14

Cool light fixture

Our server Enos

The main dish was Sweetbreads

And Lamb each split between the two of us

All gone!

The finale was the desert course and I was given chocolate three ways!

And Leslie was given a fruit filled delight

27 August 2024 Toronto: Yo, Fritzie! Its Your Birthday!

Birthday day began with a fancy egg and goat cheese dish that Leslie cooked while I  showered.  We were slightly off on our timing as I slept till 9:30 and lounged around for an hour.  At 10:30 we realized that I needed to be at the spa for my massage in an hour.  So I popped into the shower and Leslie made me breakfast and I was over to the spa in plenty of time.  After the massage we worked up an appetite (wink wink) and later went out to dinner.  We ate outside along the waterfront and watched the dog parade and all the boats out on the lake.  A delightful birthday!

It is a silly walk

Post massage possibilities...

Dinner outside by the water

The breeze was enough for the larger sailboats to be out
