1 June 2025 Rome: The Trastevere Neighborhood

Super Nona!  Laura will be leaving us at 3:30 AM later this evening.  So we wanted to do a smaller excursion to the Trastevere neighborhood.  We almost did not make it as no Ubers would show up, the busses were on a "modified" schedule and the cabbie that we managed to find, told us that he could not take us there.  We immediate took out the google machine and translated feverously.  As this was Sunday and we were in Europe, there was a massive disruption to the city of  Rome in the form of a bicycle race.  The trauma of the Bologna marathon was still fresh in our minds, but this disruption still snuck up on us.  We translated back and forth and managed a compromise where the taxi driver would take us to St Peters.  We would walk the remaining 15 minutes.  We jumped into the cab and off we went.  As we got closer to St Peters, the traffic picked up and we prepared to hike in the heat.  However to everyone's surprise the traffic tunnel was open and we quickly scooted into it.  The taxi driver let out a happy chirp and in a few minutes he was dropping us off in the Trastevere  neighborhood.  We had fun and found some narrow streets where the laundry was hanging out to dry.  Lunch, some shopping and a gelato rounded off the day.

A busy day in the Trastevere

We liked the looks of this restaurant

But highly rated restaurants with lines out front did are hard to get in

When families with babies and two tops get seated before us , we leave for another place

We stood at this taxi stand and after three other groups, one line jumper, we got a taxi.  But the driver needed 30 Euro to take us home.  The Uber app priced the ride as 32 Euro so I said sold!
