1 February 2025 Da Nang: The Dragon Breathes Fire

At 9 PM on weekend nights the dragon bridge shoots out flames.  We came to this area around 7:30 and went through the night market to burn some time before the anointed hour.  Leslie found a cute Da Nang bag to put all the sweaters into that we did not need to wear. It was much warmer inland than it is out by the sea.  Although there was a huge amount of food laying out at food stalls we did not order anything except two ears of corn.  It is not that we felt that the food was unsafe but we did not want to risk it.  It made for good pictures as we walked past all the lobsters, meatballs, hot dogs, snails, razor clams, mushroom wraps, fresh water river prawns and so much more.  We found a spot under the bridge just upriver of the dragon head.  The flames were a good 20 feet long and the heat was so intense we could feel it 40 feet away.   We can only imagine how hot it was for the people up on the bridge.  We were watching out for the huge blast of water that comes out after the fire.  We were backing away from the dragon head when we saw a fancy golf cart that was empty.  We asked and he offered to take up back so we hopped in and drove back home.

Right off the bat we saw candy to tempt the kids
