25 June 2023 Netley: Cams Mill for Sunday Roast

Our Sunday roast with Emelia, who we met in Kaikoura New Zealand, was in Cams Mill.  We started the day with some trip planning and a little baseball.  The Cardinals were playing the Cubs in London this weekend.  We had intended to attend but the ticket prices were outrageous.  $125 each for seats so far away that we balked at the idea.   instead we could watch on the telly instead.  Saturday saw the Cards ineffectual and loosing 9 - 1.  Sunday was a better game with the Cards winning 7-5.  We then took the train to Fareham and a taxi to the Cams Mill Inn.  This inn is on the 100 best Sunday Roasts list so we were hopeful for a good dinner.  It was a compromise location between Netley and Emilia's parent place.  We met Emelia in New Zealand on our last day in Kaikoura.  We had stored our luggage at the hotel and went walking.  We made it all the way to the train station but we were still early for the train.  I walked back to get the luggage and was going to return by taxi.  Leslie stayed at the station and that is how she met Emilia.  The train station was also the office of the whale watching tour that we had taken a few days earlier.  Emilia was traveling solo and was at the station waiting for the whale watching tour.  Leslie and Emilia had almost an hour to talk and bond while I was off attending to the luggage.  Through social media we were able to follow her travels and she was able to follow ours. r

We were able to see that she was back in this area so we arranged to meet for Sunday roast.  The tide was high when we arrived but it dropped while we ate.  More and more birds arrived as the tide dropped and we saw a great cormorant, great blue heron, great egret, cattle egret and a multitude of swans right outside the window of the restaurant.
