Portsmouth was a huge naval base for the UK Navy and it was a busy port city over the centuries. We took the train down to do a bit of exploration around this town. There was a large museum complex with a submarine, several old war ships and even an explosion museum detailing naval firepower. We wanted to se more of the area so we first walked to the east. Here was the Spinnaker tower, a large mall area with benches on the waterfront. We sat here and ate our picnic and then wandered about a bit looking for a hat and some clothing items to replace the worn out stuff. Leslie found some sneakers and I was told once again that my size is not available in stores. We struck out towards the north towards city center, but the heat of the day is not the time for a long expedition. After 20 minutes of walking on the uneven surfaces so we headed back to the relative cool of Netley. On the trip back the tide had turned and we could see landscape in a much different way
