3 November 2023 Vouliagmeni: The Athens Municipal Market

Today we ventured back into Athens to get a better assortment of items for our table.  We purchased many goodies including:  beef tongue, pink shrimp, Dover sole, salmon, anchovies, paprika, chili powder, spinach, shallots, garlic, lettuce, capers, walnuts, cured black olives, baklava, bell peppers, green beans, fresh dill, Brazil nuts, tomatoes, dandelion greens, lemons, pickled cauliflower, eggplant, a HDMI cable and a meat thermometer  To accomplish this we took the 122 Bus to the Metro Station into central Athens.  We now have passes that we can use on the buses, the metro and on trams.  Our experience with the public transportation started out pretty good but got worse on the return trip.  We had a older bus on our first ride and the train was new and very nice.  The train on the way back was so loud we had to try to protect our hearing by sticking our fingers in our ears.  Then the bus leg was horrible.  The bus was overcrowded and we had to stand the entire way.  It was so unbearably hot that after 15 minutes we just got out and called an uber.  I would have taken more pictures at the market but my hands got full pretty early in our shopping trip.  Most of the fish went into the freezer but we put the tongue into a pot to start cooking it.  No sooner did the water come to a boil when the resident cats showed up at the screen doors.  Stubby and mud-face are the names we have given them.  We can see a bit of the water from our balcony and the surfers were crowded out there.
