21 April 2023 Barcelona: Bobby and Moy

One really great advantage to posting our pictures on FB and Insta is that every once in a while someone sees a post and gives us a shout out.  First in Canada it was JR. Now in Barcelona it is Moy.  Both were my former students at U-School and we got a chance to meet up with each of them.  First we did some more Barcelona street strolling.  We walked along the "Block of Discord" where four buildings of different styles by different modernist architects sit side by side.  We kept on walking passing a couple more Gaudi buildings until we reached our dinner spot.  We chose Kibuka Goya since it is just a stones throw away from our main goal "Bobby Gin".  The Sushi and tempura were very good but the wide ranging conversation with Moy was the best part of dinner.  This guy has traveled!  We talked about  Japan, Egypt, China, NYC and much more.  It was heartwarming to hear that my attempt at teaching Computer Science was good enough to inspire him to choose C.S. as his major.  We had two drinks each, plus a sip or two of different gins before we called it a night.  The last train is at 10:30 and we took the 10:15 train back to Montgat.  There was a group of 6 young men that were all together and quite obviously high as kites.  Then there were three young women sitting together and mixing some rum drinks right on the train!  One of the guys tried to sit next to them but was rebuffed!  Instead he sat next to us, not nearly as exciting for him.

We were serenaded on the train by this guy on guitar

Let the "megandering" begin

The tiles on the street

Gaudi sighting #1

We look upon it in amazement

The top of the tower could be a water tower or a hot tub

Even the street lights ate ornate

Casa Balto

Casa Amatller is next door

The crowds across the street are a continuous thing

The Red flowers are a nice touch

Very fancy

A bit of modern post-modernism

Casa Mila also a Gaudi building

We saw this sculpture from the bus

The fence at the top of the roof

Such complex railings on the balconies

Big head filled with big ideas

A new look for me?

Towers of flowers

Time for a smooch and a "no look" photo!

A sneaky art wall

Lounging around in marble

Another grand building

Bar but what?  I would love to add three periods to this sign...

The streets are getting tiny in this district

A plaza!

El Gato on the prowl

Hey Moy!

Sharing some dumplings and conversation

We are 5 minutes too early for Bobby Gin

It my not be large but it makes up for it in quality

We stand next-door as we wait to be the first folks in the bar

Here here!

The gate is up so we can enter

We got to try five new gins.  G'vine is one of the new ones.  It is made from grapes and uses grape blossoms for flavor

Our guide in the gin odyssey was Ricardo from Chile

Perfecto indeed

We got a sample of this gin.  It is made in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland and has a bit of Sweet Kelp

Big ice in our big goblets

So many gins to try

I was discussing "Navy Strength" with the bartender and he offered Miller's which is "Westbourne Strength".  Westbourne Strength is a notch below Navy Strength, so I passed

So he offered up a Blackwoods, a gin that has 60% alcohol,

More staff arrived, more customers too!

The square is now empty

The detritus of some sort of celebration in front of the church

We say our goodbyes

Jump into a taxi to the train station.  We made the next to last train and had much entertainment watching the boys watch the girls drink their rum

We got some swag

It has been 320 days since we began our Migration
