The Campo de Moro Park was adjacent to the palace. While it was a royal palace back in the day, it is now a public park. It is underutilized due to the location of the entrance. It is down hill from the palace/cathedral complex and is along a very busy road. We brought a picnic lunch but saw on the list of rules that food was not allowed in the park. So we went deep into the center and ate under a shady tree. We ate without any problems from the park police. It was fun to imagine the European royalty that may have walked on the very path where we were eating our lunch We saw a European Green Finch on the way to the park. Green must be the theme of the day because later we saw a Iberian Green Woodpecker in the park. Two new lifebirds for the day. We walked past the park and returned a different way back to the Plaza Mayor. We then took a big leap and walked to the El Noviciado to restock. It was a weird experience from the check in, getting served and leaving. They wanted me to download the messaging app, "Telegram". The app would not download and so they let us in anyway. It was $10 each to visit and then we could partake. We purchased, consumed, then sat and played a game of chess. We all but walked out before remembering that we needed to pay on our way out. It was a wacky place and we had fun. Then it was prep time to leave in the morning.
Lush greenery in the park
A little cottage
A big cottage
Selfie time!
Oh, Mr. Greenfinch, sing me a tune
An engaged couple taking pictures
A sparrow lived in this street lamp
Blackbird singing in the nearby tree...
To think that Royalty walked these paths 200 years ago
Peeking through the greenery, the Palace Real
There were automatic lawn mowers roaming the grounds
Redbud trees
The old brick wall looked like it was falling apart
The secret door to who knows where
Contemplative spot
Mystery Bird???
Juan Carlos
EU Flag flying proud
A new path home
A bear on the loose
Warning bread on display may be stale
See your belly!
We did not expect a Tim Hortons
Hanging on
El Novicado is a nice part of town
Is he riding a winged creature
Sculpture from the taxi home
That is a wrap for Madrid!
