We took our extra bags to the Kyoto Station on the 8th so that we did not have to worry about it on our travel day. We are storing them there for the next 15 days so that we would not have to drag them all over hell and high water. We got into a taxi at 10 AM and made it to the station with time to spare. We were taking the shinkansen high speed train to Okayama and then the Marine Liner to Takayama. The Marine liner was not a high speed train, it was more like a local train so we had some difficulty with the bags. It was only a 45 minute ride to Takayama and it was a pretty ride through mountains and rice patties. From the train we walked 2 minutes to the JR Clement hotel where we were staying on the 18th floor. We have a great view of the Seto Inland Sea. We have a western view and the sunsets are delightful.
