Dali grew up in the town of Figueres. There was a theater in the center of town when he was growing up. The theater was burned down during the civil war and it stood derelict until 1960 when the Mayor of the town decided to rebuild it. He teamed up with Dali to do just that and in 1974 it opened to the public. This theater was the first place to display any work by Dali and now it contains the largest and most diverse collection of Dali works in the world, much coming from Dali's personal collection. This post highlights the building and its labyrinthine layout.
The exterior is studded with golden loaves of bread
Everywhere you look there is something strange
Humpty-Dumpty like eggs on the edge
Gilded demi-gods on the roof
Breads, eggs, and more gilded items
The baguette brigade
On a column of old tractor tires
We are early so time to snack
Our Lunch before the water splashed down on it
Swallow images on the wall
Some works were even painted on the exterior
Classic in one sense and surreal in others
Some shameless self promotion
A fine bed
Down in the lower reaches, below the theater is the final resting place

Here is the Caddilac
It can be very busy in this area
Huge canvas
The geodesic dome
So many of our adoring fans, draped in gold
A tower of tires with a boat on the top
Buxom
There was a driver in the car
Hood ornament
Fancy
This car is coin-op! One Euro makes it rain on the inside of the car. If only I had one euro!
Snail Shells everywhere
Looking back to the Cadillac, and the dome further behind
Rhino and octopus
Go go Poseidon
A glass coffin for a body made up of circuit boards, the death of old technology
Circuit board feet
Great small chapel that had wonderful resonance properties
The mural on the ceiling was huge
Here is Dali
Not Dali but Gala his wife
Dali painting the ceiling
The three musketeers
Me and Moy
Blindfolded and beheaded
This bust hung from the ceiling by the bejeweled spiral
Stairs up to more goodies
Did the gator get the other leg?
Lots of tours to dodge
A big recline in this chair
Alcoves would just pup up out of nowhere and be filled with art
This is a portrait of Mae West
With the Mae West lips couch, a nose fireplace and paintings for eyes
Children of the corn? Corn cobs, a child mannikin and it is a doorway
