13 March 2024 Osaka: The Land of the Rising Sun

The flight was 6 hours long, pretty easy.  Our tolerance level of flights has certainly changed over the last few years.  After a few 17, 15 and 12 hour flights, a six hour flight now seems trivial.  We headed to the lounge, got some breakfast and then went to the gate.  In Singapore the baggage screening takes place at the gate so we had to add some time in for that.  The immigration in Singapore was automated so it went smoothly and so did the baggage screening.  We were in row 11 and 12 which were ironically the first and second row on the plane! We both had windows and the seats were pretty nice.  We both watched "The Holdovers" movie and liked it.  I then went on to watch "Oppenheimer" which was appropriate since we will be visiting Hiroshima later in the year.  Leslie was able to watch two other movies in the time it took me to watch "Oppenheimer." The arrival in Osaka was mostly smooth except when we went through customs, Somehow our QR code's date was off.  First bit of a back story.  To bring in anything more than 30 days of prescription drugs you have to apply for a one time import waiver.  It took me most part of a day filling out the five page form, twice, once for myself and once for Leslie.  I had to use her computer to fill out her form because my computer was linked to my account and I could not even log in as anyone else.   The translation from Japanese to English was different on the different computers that we used so I had to double check and cross reference from one form to the next.  After all that we got our approval in only one day and it came with a QR code.  That code worked fine in immigration but not at customs.  Go figure!  Either way we filled out another shorter form and we were on our way.  Our pre-arranged driver met us and drove us to the AirBnB.  It is a nice stand alone house that is three stories tall with 30 steps up to the top, but quite skinny so only two rooms per floor.  We will have a fine three weeks here.  We walked to a store and stocked up on supplies and got some items for dinner.  Fried fish, fried chicken bits and what we thought would be more chicken.  It was chicken but only the cartilage at the end of the chicken breast, breaded and fired up.

I had some Suntory the Chita Single Malt Whiskey from Japan on the flight
