2 August 2022 Toronto: The Toronto Islands

Time to head over to the Toronto Islands. We can see them from our Condo and they have been beckoning to us.  They are a series of islands in Lake Ontario that are recreational meccas.  They have bike and running trails everywhere, a amusement park for the kiddos, canoes and kayaks to rent and restaurants as well.  We packed a picnic lunch and a jug of water and off we went.  The water taxi leaves close to our place so it was easy to get to.  Then a very fun 8 minute ride on the water.  We had fun eating our lunch and getting surrounded by seagulls.  They seemed to be working in unison with gulls in front of us keeping us distracted while the gulls behind us slowly got closer and closer.  We rented a quadracycle, which allowed both of us to sit on an bench "seat" while peddling.  I did not listen closely to the safety instructions, but I did hear that we were not allowed to cross any bridges.  Given the incomplete information, we forged forward without incident.  I noticed an audible alarm coming from the passenger, but it was deemed a false alarm by the driver.   We had great fun on this contraption and broke out in song multiple times.  It was the "Fringe on Top" that we could not resist.  We rode along many trails and saw kid camps everywhere.  This area is very highly utilized and we will most certainly be returning.

On the water taxi

The things we see!  Is this a line of tiny children being pulled along in small boats?  That is one way to acclimate then to the water?

We have made it to the Islands

The crowds ebbed and flowed in large groups.  The large public ferry would periodically unload large numbers of folks.

Of course there are ample flowering plants

The trees are very large and throwing ample shade

A shuttle can be seen in the background

Fringe happy!

Out quad-contraption

Out into the lake

Back towards the city

Canoes and kayaks are also available

A huge jetty jutting out

A fine day is had by all!
