9 August 2022 Toronto: Kensington Market: Spoiler Alert... It's Not a Market

Kensington Market was not on our list for today.  We were out and on our way to the Island but last night's  rain ushered some chilly Canadian air behind it.  We turned around, went back to the pad and put on more clothes.  Then Kensington Market became our new destination.  As the title suggests, there is no large centralized market as is found at the St. Laurence Market.  Rather Kensington Market is instead an old fashioned neighborhood.  It has a split personality like the picture above.  On one hand organic, micro businesses are popping up but on the other hand its a bit run down and grungy. There is retail on the corners and residential up top and on the side streets.  Some real nice gardens and some not so nice.  We spied a pie shop and stopped in for some pie.  Leslie picked out a slice of peach pie.  So tasty!  Some areas had lots of shops and the Spice Shop invited us in by smelling so good.  I picked up some replacement habanero and ghost pepper for my breakfast spices.  A side note, we saw the strangest thing on the water this morning.  Near as we can tell, a barge was towing a pipe that was 1000 feet long if it was an inch.  There was another boat attached tot he other end.  This other boat was faced the other way and must have been there to keep the pipe in tension.

A funky vibe

Full House

This was odd looking combination of buildings.  Surely they did not split this building and put to new ones in the center

We walked by the synagogue that had a great garden and was being renovated
