28 July 2023 Sunderland: Durham and its Cathedral

We had to walk to the Stadium of Lights to get on the metro which took us to Newcastle.  The we switched over to the train system to get to Durham.  Our train was supposed to depart at platform #3 but it was flashing which means it is subject to change.  #3 was across the majority of the tracks over an walkway so we waited to cross over until it was closer to the departure time.  When there were only a few minutes left we crossed over but were not able to get all the way there before there was a platform change.  Now we had to navigate over the pedestrian bridge while all the passengers now had to cross over.  No worries, Durham is only a 12 minute ride.  Durham is delightful from the train station to the downtown to the cathedral and the castle.  We walked over a few different bridges, stocked up on tea and gin, had a delightful lunch while watching the parade of folks saunter by.  We also visited the Cathedral and craned our necks way up to see all the decorative murals, woodwork, stained glass, icons and shrines.  We returned back down hill but took a taxi to the train station instead of the hill climb we would have had had we been on foot.
