We took the long way home to Ambleside, which led us to the ruins of a Roman Fort. Thank the National Trust for providing informative placards. There was not much left but they were located in a fine grassy field on a sunny day. We wandered over to the group of trees growing among some big stones. Certainly the Romans liked this spot. We continued on into town and got to see more of Ambleside without any rain. We had been forewarned of continuous downpours but we only had rain for a couple of hours the pervious day. The walk was delightful and we took a great shortcut into town. We had never walked this way but a lady and her dog led the way so we were confident that we were on the correct path.

Welcome to the Ambleside Fort, sir.
Laid out ion a grid pattern
A half a dozen building foundations
An alluring hill
Up the stones we go
Weeee!
House of the Hoarder Bird
Not many folks getting in our way
An odd tree, what sort of sprite lives here?
Off the hill with you!
Off in the distance is a large stone barn
Look in the sky
Is that a bird?
They are landing in the field
Not even an hour later several low flying jets flew right over this field
So many nice gardens all through town
It is a Roman Warrior in red!
And a chariot driver to boot
A short cut into town
The church blends into the surroundings
The wall along the shortcut
A funky gate
Moss is the boss
Our path
A mail house!
