Sunderland is a wonderland! After driving 3+ hours to get here, most of it in the rain, we were greeted personally by our host. That was a sweet and personal touch that we don't always get. Whenever we choose an AirBnB we never really know what it will be like. Sure we have pictures to see, and google maps street view that we can use to investigate the neighborhood. But there are so many things that will remain unknown until we walk through the door. The beds could be lumpy, it could have a funky smell, the neighbors could be noisy, street noise could be intrusive and so on. Luckily for us, the place where we are going to spend the next two months is fantastic. The beds are great, no neighbors at all, no street noise once the windows are closed and we have a wonderful view of the North Sea. There are dogs walking by, surfers in the waves, people walking on the huge jetty and boats of all kinds floating in the water. The ceilings on the first floor are 10 or 12 feet high with beautiful crown molding. We have ample seating opportunities and closets enough to hang everything we need to hang. On top of that the host has offered free cleaning services while we are here and for only 10 pounds sterling we can get a huge bag of clothes washed, dries and ironed!
Looking out from the front room to the North Sea
A huge curved jetty out to the lighthouse
We will take the tour of the tunnel inside the jetty
It is a big area and this kayaker is barely visible
Birdlife abounds
A ship waiting to unload
Swimmers!
The lighthouse
The tide is heading out
And the moon is coming up
It is full and a supermoon to boot
Leslie saw it first from the upstairs window
It was hard to photograph
But I was lucky
And got a few good ones
Surfers like the wall
I think it gives them an extra push
So man dogs!
In the entrance way of the building
Surf and the sea
Six starlings
Looking for food
the starlings are pretty birds
Our Apartment
Surfing the UK
We saw a few waves splash over top of the pier
A couple heading out with long bpards
Sailboats in the sun
Some formidable cliffs
A solar and wind powered wooden sphere
All burned up by the sun!
Another lighthouse
An authentic WW2 mine
A rock pipit singing to the world
I saw this bird flying in the face of the wind and not making much progress
But it landed on this light pole and I got the picture
