28 April 2025 Salerno: A Trip to Napoli

We had already planned to go to Pompei the 29th.  Since Mara had a an early flight the on the 30th it made sense that she would leave from Pompei and stay the night in Napoli.  The only problem is what would she do with her luggage while we visited Pompei.  The easiest solution was for us to go to Napoli, drop off Mara's bag and go to the Archeology museum to prepare for our  Pompei visit. So we got into Napoli with Mara's big bag and went straight to the hotel.  While waiting for the train we passed the time chatting with a man from Arizona.   His name was Eddie and was traveling with another gal, Denise, who rode the train in the seat next to Leslie.  We took the train from Salerno to the Garibaldi station and the metro to the Toledo station.  The first time navigating to a new place, the distance always seems to be farther than it really is.  As we trudged along on the cobble stones we started to wonder about the blue dots directions provided by Google.  The doubts grew as we had reached our destination and there was no sign of any Bed and Breakfast.  We eventually found a small sign, perhaps 10 inches by 8 inches with the name of the BnB.  Huzzah!  We went inside and there was a tiny elevator up one flight of stairs.  We headed up but only two of us could fit inside.  We pressed the buttons but nothing happened.  It turned out that we needed to put a 0.10 Euro into the box that housed the buttons.  How much money could they possible collect over the course of a day, a dime at a time?  Oh well, we found the door, were greeted and they took Mara's bag to hold for the day.  We were overdue to some lunch and we tired three different pizza places before we settled on one.

We rode in the top section

The huge doors have a much smaller door within this door that is used by the inhabitants

We finally found a pizza place with an open table, the ratty old menus should have been a warning

27 April 2025 Salerno: From Maiori to Minori

To get from Miaoria to Minori we had two options.  Option one was to walk the "Path of Lemons," a two hour trek with 450 stairs going up and 400 stairs going down.  Option two was a stroll along Amalfi drive, 15 minutes along the paved road.  Granted, the shorter walk was along the road that cars were also using and there was no sidewalk just a meagre shoulder.  On the plus side, the road was one way at the point where it was very narrow and this minimized the amount of cars, also there was a roadside seating area that gave us a great view of the water and the two towns.  Minori is a UNESCO World Heritage site with a large church, great tilework, narrow streets and a welcoming vibe.  We strolled, we looked, we stopped and smelled the roses, we had tea coffee and snacks.  We also saw a funeral procession where they stopped all traffic on the main road and carried the casket to the church.  Behind the casket was a procession of friends and family.  It was a touching moment.  We made it to another shop that had tons of desserts as well as gelato for Mara to have served inside a hollowed out lemon.

On the street lookin back at Miaori

We have crossed the dotted line between the two towns
