2 April 2025 Sliema: A Cruise of Two Harbors, the Grand Harbor and the Marsamxett Harbor

The two harbors in central Malta are really something unique.  The Grand Harbor is the deepest harbor in the Mediterranean. This has made it a strategic harbor for ships from the dawn of time to the present.  Large cruise ships can pull right into the harbor and dock up on the edge of Valetta.  We got on the Grand Harbor and three on the Marsamxett.  It was a beautiful day for a boat ride, bright and sunny!  We cruised all through the two harbors and saw all the walls and forts.  We listened to the historical narrative and many interesting bits of information were shared.  For instance Dock #4, known locally as the Chinese dock is so big that a cruise boat can pull into the harbor and right into the dry dock.  This was the same area where the British Aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious was attacked and received multiple hits.  A true tour through history.
