3 April 2025 Sliema: Mdina the Traditional Capital of Malta

We got done with the neolithic sites around 2 PM and decided that since Mdina was on the way home, we might as well stop and see the city.  Visiting later in the day allows the crowds to thin out.  This was the capital of Malta for centuries before the Knights of St. John built Valetta.  It is a walled city on the top of a hill and only about 200 people still live there.  It is also known as the silent city, but that must be after all the tourists have left the city.  We were able to wander aimlessly and see the whole of Mdina in two hours.  That included sitting down in a cafe for coffee and tea.  A great little gem of a city.
