After the penguins we took a scenic drive to several little towns. There is a giant bay called False Bay that is south of Table Mountain and the western edge of this bay is a large peninsula that juts out into the ocean. Hout Bay, Fish Hoek, Camps Bay and Chapman's Peak are places along this peninsula that we drove through. It was a great way to see more of Cape Town and there was no reason the drive back the same way that we came.
This is Long Beach
It is 8 kilometers long and it super wide. I bet it takes five minutes just to walk to the water
This is a resort with a big thatched roof
Along the road to Chapman's Peak
The drive is quite spectacular
We are right on the edge and there is giant netting to keep falling rocks from the road
Looking over to the other end of Hout Bay
Some great engineering
Built by prisoners, that was cheap labor back in the day
Driving under the rock was a new one for us
A very fun drive
It was overcast but you get a feel for the scale
All the bays are very large
A stop at Chapman's Peak, the highest point on this drive
Look to the left to find the sailboat, dwarfed by the rock faces
Hout Bay Heights is a neighborhood nestled in
Hout Bay propper
Lots of folks on bikes and running along the road
Yellow pincushion flowers
A huge slab of rock, 1000 to 1500 feet tall
We could manage it here
Cool slogan
The town at the back of Hout Bay
A big area of sand dunes up on the hill
Another nice beach
A very upscale neighborhood between the mountains and the water
These series of peaks are called the apostles
Pretty pretty
The sun has decided to join us
These pictures are all good, I cant decide
This one I like the best
A park out on this spit of land jutting out into the water
It is easy on the eyes here
Of course a five star resort and spa!
Arriving at Camps Bay
Camps Bay is smaller but more developed
The apostles and the town of Camps bay
Another place we could really enjoy a longer stay at
It has been 131 days since we began our Migration
