We had our lunches and a bit of an afternoon break. There was some more animal activity across the river, mostly warthogs and a long line of elephants. We left the camp and had intended to drive leisurely along the river but a large group of elephants had a different plan. This may have been the group we saw heading upriver earlier in the day. Lots of little ones and one big mamma in the road who said "No Further". Some Ear flapping and steady movement towards the car made it clear that we needed to leave. Kenny put it into reverse and we were soon on a different road. Then we saw a two big giraffe, one with a big wound on his neck. Eventually we got to the rivers edge for our sundowner. It was lots of fun and we took pictures with everybody as this was going to be our last game drive at Khawi. GnT's and wine made the group a bit more rowdy than normal. It was full dark by the time we headed back. It is difficult to photograph the animals at night so there are no pictures of the elephant nestled amongst the trees, the giraffe that materialized out of the gloom and the night jaw bird. But I was able to get a few grainy pictures of the African Wild Cat. They are as small as a house cat and nocturnal, as such they are difficult to spot out in the bush. When we got back to camp another special dinner was prepared for us in a private elevated dining area.
Warthogs across the river were getting their own lunch.
They rest on their front legs to make it easier to graze
A big group of elephants were across the river
A bush fix to keep the tent flaps closed and to stop the wind from getting in
Little baby who is still learning how to use his trunk
Time for more grass munching
This mother wanted us to know that she had babies and we were not invited. So Kenny put it in reverse and off we went, backwards. As you can see the front of the car is 10 feet away from us
There were probably 10 in this group that we saw and more back along the road
They are so cute when they are only 500 pounds
A giraffe with a wound on his neck
Are the oxpecker helping or hurting? Skip the video if you don't like the gore
