The clouds had been cleared out by a stiff breeze off the ocean. That made the bay even more beautiful with the white of the waves contrasting with the blue of the water. There are still some clouds over the mountains and I think there will always be clouds. As the air rises along the mountain side the moisture will condense and clouds will form. We took out lunch out to the benches along the water to sit and soak up the beauty. Back to the apartment to do some mundane items, laundry, booking a place in Istanbul, cooking dinner, that sort of thing. Then I took a 5 mile walk out to the trail head of the seal reserve. It was a nice chance to stretch my legs and see more of the peninsula.
So many hues of blue
The rocks are getting slammed today
Right outside our place
We spent time just sitting on a bench watching the view
Too windy for excursions today
The blue does not stop
The ocean was rougher out on this side of the peninsula
Nesting materials
These trees line the road along the bay
They are the New Zealand equivalent of the Chilean Monkey Puzzle Tree
This fishing boat moved in to calmer waters
Took a walk over towards the Seal Colony and I saw this giant tree up on the cliff
Even better views of the Kaikoura Range
It takes two pictures to get it all in
I could smell the dinner that was being prepared here
More distressed limestone
A boat launch on a set of tracks
Another little bay to skirt
Whale bones
Watch out for the seals!
Some grassland along the sea
A map of the Kaikoura peninsula, it is larger than we thought
Predator free by 2050!
Another huge tree
These are some big mountains, 9000+ feet in height
Peeking out through the trees
The sunset is giving it a bit of a glow
Looking back to our apartment
The waves are still crashing
The sun is setting and throwing the long shadow
Back to the Apartment
Some clouds forming at the top of the mountains
