13 March 2025 Sliema: Our First Day Exploring Malta

Sliema is a town on the eastern side of the Republic of Malta.  We are staying a block from the Mediterranean Sea right next to the beautiful promenade that stretches all along the sea.  This promenade has playgrounds, cafes, a scuba club, old Roman Pools carved into the rock and a cat shelter.  The population of Malta is just a bit over 500,000, they use the Euro and are part of the European Union, but I am getting ahead of myself.  We walked along the promenade next to two and three story buildings made of the local honey colored limestone.  This limestone s strong but also easy to work, so many of the buildings had carved highlights or statuettes.  The water is a beautiful blue color and quite inviting.  We did our traditional first day activities, shopping for food, washing some clothes and orientating ourselves to the neighborhood.  The washing was over due, as it had been quite a while since we were in Thailand where we had access to a washer.

these blooms were quite large, 5 inched across at the the face

This large cat sits on top of the car shelter area.  There are houses for the cats that look like the pigeon houses of Vietnam only scaled up to cat size

A beautiful day, warm enough for sunbathers

This is the most built up part of St. Julians.  These buildings are more modern and taller
