13 August 2023 Back to Sunderland: A Day of Train Riding

We had to ride three different trains to get back to Sunderland.  Getting to the first train was the hardest  part as most of downtown Glasgow was closed off due to the bike races.  Our driver dropped us off just a few blocks away from the train station but the crossing points were not conveniently located.  So we had to roll our bags back and forth 10 blocks total to get into the station.  We made it to the train on time and then transferred trains in Edinburgh.  We then switched to the Metro in Newcastle and finally took a cab from downtown Sunderland.  When we boarded our train in Edinburgh the seats were facing backwards and had no window. Grrrrr.  But we listened to the announcements and they said that there were no reserved seats on this train.  That was due to a missing car on the train.  We grabbed out things and moved to the next car.  We were so pleased with ourselves until a bachelorette party boarded.  The 10 young women wore silly glasses and they popped a bottle of champagne right off the bat.  Then we were so pleased that we had our noise canceling headphones!  Once we got home the sun was out so we took a walk to the lighthouse.  On the way we saw three new lifebirds.  A Common Murre, a Razorbill and an Arctic Tern!

Glasgow all these folks are waiting for the platform to be announced.  This may be announced only a few minutes before departure
