The Fire Station theater is a mid sized venue in a redeveloped area near City Hall. There is an attached restaurant where we ate some dinner and had a few drinks. As we got out of the taxi we stood at the curb for a while soaking up this new Sunderland location and suddenly the skies opened up. We had to scramble to get our coats on and umbrella up before we got soaked. Thank goodness we took a cab because we only had to run a short bit to get to the Fire Station. The dinner was just OK but the show was fabulous. There were at least 14 people in the act. Seven band members played instruments, keyboard, sax, trumpet, trombone, drums, bass and guitar. Then there were seven singers who each had solos and all of them sang back up and danced with typical 50/60's back up singers grooves. There were issues with the mikes and most importantly the lights. At least a dozen different times the lead singer was standing in the dark as the spotlight never tried to find them. Finally whoever was manning the smoke machines went way overboard. At one point we could not make out any of the band members as the smoke was so thick that they were lost in the haze. All in all, a fine outing and a great show. We took a taxi back after we flagged one down. The taxi app chose this time not to work!
