We both were up relatively early, The first night in a new place always seems to work out this way. I heard the Palawan Crow calling outside my window and when I went outside I scared off a pair of hornbills. I made some tea and then saw them flying over on the other side of the compound. I walked over and got a few good shots. This was lifebird #1 for the day. By the time I returned Leslie was up so I made her some tea and we had out morning sipping tea and waking up ritual. Breakfast is included so we headed down around 9:30. It is much easier getting down the 91 steps than up them. We had breakfast and asked a bit about how the resort operates then we headed back up. We were not back long before the rain hit. The weather has been stormy as the Typhoon up by Taiwan has been pulling the moisture in. Lunch was inside out of the rain. When that cleared out the seas seemed to settle a bit and we watched the 3 PM shuttle bringing new guests to the island. It was quite the ordeal unloading the folks and getting them up onto the elevated pier. A white breasted sea eagle glided by. We heard the crows again and they were telling me that a pair of Green Imperial Pigeons were in a nearby tree lifebird #2 for the day. Later as the shadows were getting longer the sparrows and swiftlets were zooming all around us. The Pygmy Swiftlet was among them and so lifebird #3 in in the book. That makes 19 new birds for our time in Palawan
Looking out from our porch
The gym is down here as well as the pier
The crow was calling me from the back yard
A mysterious trail to the Sunset viewing area
Very tall limestone bluffs all around
We made it to breakfast
The villas abound
Palawan Hornbill
Palawan Sunbird
This tiny bird takes the niche that hummingbirds take in the Americas
The Palawan Crow
Green Imperial Pigeon
Many swifts flying all around
Here comes a boat. The Coast Guard must have given the all clear
How is this going to work
Closer
Docked to the floating platform
Unloading people who then sit on the bench
Pull the platform over to the jetty
Will the passengers please remain seated
Then the passengers stand on the box and time it just right so they can step up on the ladder
Up you go!
They continue off of the jetty and onto the island
One man stays on the platform
He uses the rope to pull the platform back out away from the jetty
Then he gets to the edge
Jumps into the water
Swims over the jetty
Finds a rope and climbs up it to the jetty
Crows come by to say hi
A white Breasted Sea Eagle
A reclining woman head to the left, big hair, face, breast and belly
We call that a wrap
