A dinner, story time, and a master class in Kyoto culture

Our hostess acted as a server, storyteller and cultural attaché all in one.  So many dishes so many stories.  We   had the option of eating dinner in our room or in the dining room that overlooked the stream. We chose the view which was the correct choice.  The first course was  a tofu triangle that is cut in that shape to look like the ice that they needed prior to refrigeration.

The second course was a soup with a dumpling that was stuffed with bean and potato.  This was topped with a leek that was knotted to signify the union of two people that will grow old together

We were next presented with special sake that had gold leaf on it to signify our anniversary.

The sake was maybe too strong

Course four was a fresh water shrimp with snapper, seaweed that was tiny globes, maple leaf potato and radish .

The fifth course was sashimi with salmon Saba a local river spice, fresh wasabi,  and tiny purple flowers that were tasty

Number six is young ayu fish on a small hamachi grilled at the table.  With a young ginger sprout.

Is it course number seven?  Yes it is!  A hot pot with octopus to dip in to the hot broth.

Eight was a potato soup with happy beans in it.

The bean is smiling .

Now the sake is too strong because we are a bit shaky on the order of the dishes.  Nine was tofu made from the skin of the soybean sea urchin and ginger

Tenth was rice with burdock miso soup green tea pickled cucumber, ginger and cabbage

Lastly a black sesame ice cream with watermelon and pineapple

So happy

So much sake!!!
