29 July 2024 Iceland: A Quick Stopover in Keflavik Airport

We landed at just before 16:00 local time.  There was a delay getting the jetway to the plane which caused some amount of friction in the back of the business class.  We got our bags and walked over to our hotel.  It is nothing special but worth saving a couple thousand dollars on flights.  The day was still "young" by the time we were in our room and so I took a bit of a tundra stroll to look for some birds.  I saw a whimbrel, a couple of northern wheatears and a new "lifebird" the rock ptarmigan.  A great way to stretch out my legs.

A rainbow walkway over to the hotel

Nordic design!  Simplicity is not always the best solution

Our Hotel is right next to the airport

Gulls

Sculpture

The tundra was covered in a tick layer of soft mosses

Some large boulders

Five colors of green

Little bunches of flowers

We saw these green bushes in Denmark

So thick

The male northern wheatear

Off he goes

The whimbrel was calling loudly

A rather large bird

Off he goes

One legged stance

More tiny flowers

A larger rock

A big mushroom

The rock ptarmigan blends in completely

I could see the bird with my eyes but not on the camera screen

I thought this may have been a weasle

A nest or a hidey hole for some sore of beast

The female wheat ear

And the male were loving this larger rock

Peek a boo

Time to head back

29 July 2024 Copenhagen: Farvel to Denmark Hallo Iceland

We had the airport shuttle come to get us at 10:00 AM and of course they were early.  Toke came by at 9:45 to inspect the place and he was pleased with our cleaning.  The van was big, clean and just what  we needed.  We checked in and went to the lounge.  Since we were early there was no gate yet assigned.  The gate eventually got assigned and then promptly changed  There was some concern as to when we would pass through the immigration line which was extremely long, but we remembered that we were traveling within the Schengen zone so no immigration on this leg.   The flight was only three hours which was barely time to watch Dune II.

Driving in comfort

I started loading early before Toke showed up for the final inspection

Here we go!

It is a busy day at the airport

Lots of room for the people to mill about

A bus ride to the plane!

Lets talk about waterfalls

Lundey Gin is another color changer

It starts out purple

Ends us less purple

Four new gins for Gin Book #2

We kept the small bottles so the labels could go in the book

64 degrees North

North indeed!

Make way, here we come!

We are approaching the island of Iceland

A heavily populated region of Iceland

26-28 July 2024 Copenhagen: The End Draws Nigh

There is always a bit of sadness or nostalgia that we feel when leaving a long stay.  We really loved Denmark and our place was fantastic.  One drawback was the lengthy cleaning list that came with the rental.  Granted, there was no expensive cleaning fee that we would have had to pay regardless on how clean or dirty we left the place.  No fee was a plus, but faced with a detailed two page list of items that we had to clean, it was a bit daunting.  On top of that we got the COVID some where in Copenhagen and it hit me pretty hard.  Leslie fared a bit better but neither of us was in top form.  So this post covers a few days of the following: clean a little, rest a little watch some Olympics a little, feel sad a little.

Even little boxes to check the item off

Soem items were unrealistic like cleaning the huge windown

The oven here was a mess

We were to blame for most of it

Cleaning is therapeutic on a certain level

Deep clean

Cleaning these counters was very tricky.  The matte finish was particularly difficult to get clean and keep clean

Nice beds, we will certainly miss the comfort

Fresh washed windows

The vacuum was used non-stop

We wanted to document the cleanliness

The sunsets are getting earlier and earlier

But just as pretty

A few days ago this box showed up on our balcony!  WTF, it is for the next building over...did the post man just throw it up on a random balcony?

Going over for some cough medicine and I saw the milk man

Pouring out the fresh milk

Watching the opening ceremony of the Olympica

Liquid Benadryl

A most tiny boat

More nice sunsets

It has been a long time on the road!
