15 July 2024 Copenhagen: A Fine Walk in Amager Fælled

The sun was out and this looked like a good day to explore the Amager Fælled area.  It is a very large park / nature preserve which is just across the canal from our house.  Just one stop on the ferry and we are a few blocks away from the park.  Unfortunately we had some problems with the ferry running 20 minutes late on the outbound trip and 35  minutes late on the return trip.  Weird, since it is supposed to run every 30 minutes.  It was windy on the water and we saw paddle boarders working hard to make any progress against the wind.  We were concerned that they would be in the path of the ferry but they got over to the side in time to avoid getting run over. We saw some barn sparrows mating at the ferry dock.  Over in the park we saw a slug massacre with squished slugs, maimed slugs and dead slugs on the trail.  Denmark is being attacked by invasive snail and slug species.  This explains the times we have seen our neighbors out at night with flashlights plucking creatures off of the shrubs.  Besides the slugs we saw a variety of butterflies, dragon flies and of course birds.  We set a lake as our destination and got right to it.  We kept on walking and made a loop through the park.  Great fun and we even stopped off at the store and bought some flowers to plant.  A delay on the return was not much of an issue.  Back to the house to make some dinner.
