3 July 2024 Linkoping: A Visit with Aunt Marlene and Thea

My Aunt Marlene moved to Sweden back in the 1950's.  She married and had a kids who are my cousins.  The cousin that Leslie and I have had the most contact with is pictured above, Jan Andersson. We met as small kids in NY and again on our three trips to Sweden in 2001, 2018 and 2024.  He is a great guy and a great son to his recently departed mom, my Aunt Marlene.  She only passed away recently and we had told her that we were going to stop by while we were in Copenhagen.   We went to see Marlene's memorial site which is in a most beautiful forest.  Before Marlene  passed away she told one of my second cousins, Anders Andersson, the grandson of my grandfathers brother, that we were going to visit.  He met us way back in 2001 and joined us at the memorial site.  Anders told her that he wanted to see us again so he came out as well and he showed us a book that was my grandfather's diary.  There were entries about the Spanish Flu from 1918 in the diary Two more relatives joined us there, Marie and Goren.  We all traveled to different cemetery where some of my mothers ashes were placed.  We paid her our respects and left flowers and lit a candle.  Then we headed out for lunch.  No pictures of our meal as we were too busy talking.
