1 September 2023 Lisbon: We Have Arrived!

It took a few days but we have finally arrived in our AirBnB in Lisbon Portugal.  First we took a train from York to Manchester.  On that train we had a great time talking to a young couple, Sam and Jasmine.  They were heading off to the Canary Islands for some sun and fun. No real exploring  in Manchester for us, but we met Andy on the taxi ride to the hotel.  The entire ride was devoted to tales of travel and the downsizing that preceded it.  He gifted us a copy of the Swiss Family Robinson circa 1940 that was the one of the few things he saved from downsizing his Auntie's house.  We spent a good amount of time organizing our luggage as we were going to fly Ryan Air.  Ryan has a bad reputation for being sticklers about luggage weights and sizes. I had the tape measure out and the digital scale. When we actually checked in our bags, the agent complemented us on how close we got to 20 kg without going over.  We got on to the flight with the correct check in and carry on luggage, phewww.  We have gotten used to flying in a certain style.  Ryan Air was not an example of the style that we like.  No food service, no business class seats no complimentary drinks.  One positive was we got to meet a delightful DJ from Angola.  He was flying down to do a show and a wedding.  He originally was from Angola but moved to Portugal when he was 10.  His family currently lives in Leeds in the UK.  We was not a fan of flying and sitting in between of us helped him relax.  That and the bottle of whiskey that he bought from the duty free helped him as well.  He mixed three drinks from one bottle of coke and there was still some coke to spare at the end of the flight.
