27 September 2023 Lisbon: Drawn to the Flames at the Tivoli

My high school buddy Tim R. sent a cryptic FB message a few weeks ago saying that his friend Alice would be watching for us.  Not knowing what to make of it, I did nothing until I saw her friend request.  I accepted the request and after a bit we decided to meet.  We had been carrying Coleman stadium seatbacks with us for over a year and had only used then twice.  I was going to just leave them at the AirBnB but I thought that Alice may want them.  In the mean time Alice had been trying to replace her worn out stadium seatbacks but they are not available in Europe.  What a fine coincidence.  We met at the top of the Tivoli, that bar with flaming heaters that we had been watching for weeks.  So like moths to the flame we headed over.  The bar is on the roof and was very fancy.  We got there a bit early and were seated by the edge so we could see the city and the moon when it rose above the horizon.  Before we even got our drinks ordered, the place had filled up entirely.  Alice showed up soon after that and the conversation began in earnest.  What an amazing life Alice has had.  From studying for a Cultural Anthropology PhD (ABD) to working in Urban Planning in Santa Barbra CA, she has really had a fascinating life.  She has Irish ancestry so has been able to get an Irish passport.  That led to her living in Portugal and being able to stay in the Schengen Region without limits!  We talked for hours stopping only to snap pictures of the glorious sunset and nearly full moon.  We will see her again wherever there is a solar eclipse next to a music festival.
