10 July 2021 drive to Erie PA

So much glass that they made a museum 10 July 2021 drive to Erie PA

We woke to another beautiful lakeside morning.  A quick breakfast and a quick pack up and we were out.  Another grand back-road tour was in the works for this day.  First we went to the Corning Glass Museum.  The building you see above is made of glass and the walls were even translucent.  Somehow we spent 2.5 hours in this museum yet felt like we rushed through the museum.  There was so much of the story of glass that we knew nothing about.  From the first mechanical bottle maker, to the origins of float glass, to all the happy accidents that resulted in the discoveries of fiberglass, glass ceramics and fiber optics.  What a treat!  Our road of choice was NY 417.  It passed through many cool small towns, some doing better than others.  More grand houses, lots of lakes with the associated boats and docks, rivers along the road and great driving weather.  I needed the intermittent function of the wipers a few times but no sustained rain.  The clouds were great for keeping the eye strain down.  Finishing up the drive, we went through Allegany State Park.  This park was a gem of a park,  There must have been hundreds of cabins stretched over 10 miles or so of park road.  The speed limit was 35 MPH but that seemed too fast as we were trying to see everything.  There were streams, lakes, wooded hills and wildlife.  Finally we did a quick highway run of an hour into Erie PA.
