The Nagoya City Art Museum was a real gem. There was a special exhibit by Japanese artist Yoshimoto Sakuji that showed her growth as an artist through two or three major style changes. Her works were spread out over three floors of exhibition space. In the center area were some larger pieces, the man with a hammer and the giant skyscraper with a dragon. After this we walked around in the park and sat on a few benches to watch the people. The fountain was huge and very fun to watch. Our dinner was in a highly rated hole in the wall with great food.
We kept looking over our shoulders for the big red bouncing ball
An inset into the wall, very cool stuff
Initial semi realistic painting
This was the first major style with large black portions in each canvas
Almost all balck
A huge bone
A black cloud
Great balls of color
The second style change had cartoonish figures in each painting
Giant boots on a gal looking at the pictures
The third style consisted of fantastical worlds
In each of these elaborate scenes there was a figure sitting in a chair or at a desk relaxed and calmly existing
I preferred the most recent style
Splat from the first floor
Splat from the second floor
More works on the second floor
In this painting the girl on the right is delivering lunch to the wise one up on the cliff
A tree is an island of calm
Who is that inside the tree?
Another portal into nature
So very detailed
In the basement there were some early sketches and notebooks
I like the dark center
A different way to indicate which floor the elevator is on
Getting hammered!
This was huge
Something was going on in each of the windows
A dragon on top had US coins as armor on its belly
The man with the umbrella is completely oblivious
The dragon's head was dollar bills, perhaps a commentary on capitalism?
Scary dragon
Looks like Gomez Addams
Inside the larger portion of the building, a man sweeping up the loose change
Out of the back comes the garbage
An oversized window washer
Famous Artists Finger puppets
I really liked this piece. Under the scary mask is a even scarier face on the little girl
The Science Museum has a huge sphere!
Sculpture and rocket parts are also here
A huge fountain to boot
A fluffy fountain
A mix of mist and streams
The tall spire of water
A big bunny
Off to dinner in a tiny 10 person restaurant
Two workers only but some very tasty food
We had to use the google translator on all the signs around the room. No English menu!
Not sure we wanted to order these cheese dumplings
Such a tasty mackerel!
